Vocational rehabilitation will help identify your abilities, skills, and work interests so you can be matched with a good job.

It is one of your most important benefits provided by law.  Act early or risk losing this benefit.

Your Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor will work closely with you, your doctor, your employer and other professionals to help you return to work when the time is right.

The Vocational Rehabilitation Program consists of 5 steps:

	Evaluation
	Planning or Job Exploration
	Provision
	Job Placement
	Employment Monitoring and Follow-up Services

Vocational Rehabilitation is a step-by-step process.  The 4 levels of this program set by the Department of Labor, State of Hawaii, are:

	The same job with the same employer
	A different job with the same employer
	A similar or new job with a new employer
	Retraining  (On-the-Job Experience, On-the-Job Training or Formal Schooling)

Suitable and gainful employment is defined as:

The job should as closely as possible compare to the job on which you were injured - in pay, benefits, employment status, level of responsibility and education.  Your physical abilities and the local labor market must also be considered.

If you do not select a counselor, one will be assigned to you by the Department of Labor.

The Counselor you choose should be an individual who is qualified, certified and experienced.

The Counselor you choose should be an individual you feel comfortable to work with.

The Counselor you choose should remain with you throughout the entire vocational rehabilitation process.

The Counselor you choose will allow you to make decisions for yourself.

The right Counselor will take the time to help you explore your options.

The right Counselor believes in open and honest communication.
